Meeting my online best friend

When I was younger I was SUPER passionate about dancing — that is all I did. When my family and I would travel to LA, they would take me to classes at IDA Hollywood, ALDC, and many other studios so I could improve my skills and challenge myself in drop-in classes.

In 2016 after dancing in LA, a girl reached out to me on Instagram to say hi and that she, too, danced at the ALDC LA. The two of us started talking and getting to know each other. She was a year older than me but we were very similar from our passion for dance, to our love for NYC. Our friendship was only on Snapchat and had never actually met but after months we decided to finally meet in person! I met her at the Grove in LA when I was down there doing more dance classes. We got food, saw goats and walked around the mall! It was fun to actually meet her in person and we got along very well. We haven’t seen each other since but we still talk almost everyday and are hoping to reunite once it is safe.

While friends and family members may have been skeptical, she didn’t feel like a stranger because we had gotten to know each other so well before we met face to face. While it is possible to make friends online, meeting them in person is much more fun. I was grateful that she reached out, that we gave each other a chance and that we stuck it out and now have a strong, unique friendship!

*side note, I still dance, just not with a specific studio — I do drop-ins!
